# Shotokan

## Der Ursprung des Shotokan-Karate

Der Begriff Shotokan besteht aus drei Wörtern.

**Sho **= Pinie

**To **= Welle/Woge

**Kan **= Halle

Shotokan bedeutet frei übersetzt **„Die Halle des Shoto“**. Shoto war der Künstlername
von Meister Funakoshi, welchen er insbesondere als Signatur für seine Gedichte verwendete.

**Meister Funakoshi** war ein Experte im Okinawa-te und übte über 30 Jahre das Nebensystem„
Shorin-ryu“ aus. Er brachte das Okinawa-te in stark veränderter, den japanischen
Anforderungen angepasst, Form als das **Karate Do nach Japan**. Es war z.B. in Japan
nicht durchsetzbar, dieselbe Kata über drei Jahre lang zu üben. Seine Schüler:innen
verbreiteten die Kampfsportkunst später als das uns bekannte Shotokan-Karate.
